Old Fashioned Ginger-Snaps
3/4 cup butter or margarine

8-10 ozs butter (nothing else will do)
6 oz sugar

Preheat oven to 350F
2 cups sifted flour
1 tablespoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
4 teaspoons, baking powder
4 tablespoons cold shortening
1/2 tp 3/4 cup milk
1 egg, well beaten
melted butter, Sugar
2 1/3 c All-purpose flour
1/2 c Enriched Corn Meal
1 ts Salt (optional)
1/3 c Margarine or butter; plus
2 tb Margarine or butter
1/3 c Vegetable shortening
6 oz Shredded cheddar cheese
1/2 c Ice water
8 c Peeled, sliced apples (about 8 medium apples)
2/3 c Sugar
3/4 ts Cinnamon
4 Eggs medium size
9 oz of Margarine/Butter
9 oz of Castor Sugar
9 oz of Self Raising Flour
Half a teaspoon of Vanilla Essence
Strawberry Jam
Half a pint of Fresh Double Cream
1 teaspoon of Caster Sugar
5 Tablespoons butter
1 cup onions, chopped fine
1 cup celery, with leaves, chopped fine
1 cup carrots, peeled and chopped fine
1 cup parsnips, peeled and chopped fine
2 Tablespoons garlic, minced
1/4 cup flour
3½ cups rich chicken stock
4 cups Bass ale
2 bay leaves
cayenne pepper or hot pepper sauce, to taste
4 Tablespoons cornstarch, diluted in cold water
1 cup heavy cream
1/2 pound Stilton and Cheddar cheese (the proportion of each, to your taste), grated
salt, to taste
Garnish: minced parsley
1 ts Rosemary
4 Cornish game hens
2 Cloves garlic, pressed
1/2 cup Butter
2 tb Lemon juice
Rub hens with butter. Combine other ingredients and use to baste hens. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour, basting with lemon mixture every 10 minutes. If serving with rice, spoon remaining lemon mixture over rice.
